Meeting Notes

6th July – ‘The Photographic Sublime’ – Thomas Peck

Tom’s presentation focused on the word ‘sublime’ – a word that, for me anyway, has largely fallen out of use and how it applies to art and photography.

In a word ‘awesome’, giving one a feeling of awe. That pretty much sums my feeling about his talk! We saw a wide range of paintings and photographs to explain his thinking.

How refreshing it was when Tom spoke of how photographs made him feel rather than the typical technical comments one often hears from judges!

Tom along with other colleagues run workshops and holidays details are on the Quest Photography website.

Tom’s own private website has lots of examples of his own ‘sublime’ images.

Tom is also a contributor to On Landscape, which is a subscription based magazine that is dedicated to landscape photography.
